FAQs

Here at Advanced Dental Center of Florence, we want all of our Florence, SC patients to have as much information as they need to make the most informed decision about their dental health.  Dentures are one of the best options for patients with missing or damaged teeth.  Here is some important information about dentures to help you decide if they are right for you:

How much do dentures cost?

For more information, visit our cost and financing page.

Fortunately, dentures have become so main stream that it’s very possible to find a reasonable price for them.  Check with your dentist first. He or she knows you and your mouth best.  Patients should be aware though that discount options may not be better.  Here at Advanced Dental Center of Florence, we use the best quality products to ensure that our patients get the best look, feel and function for their dentures.  Discount products may be cheaper in the beginning but may not last as long or may need more maintenance.

How long will my dentures last?

Dentures typically last from 5-10 years.  Even though your teeth are gone, your mouth and gums will continue to change shape for the rest of your life.  Because dentures are artificial, obviously, they will not change with the shape of your mouth, but you will them replaced or adjusted at the recommended times.

How will dentures change my appearance?

Each set of dentures is usually personalized to precisely fit your gums, lips and tongue. Additionally, before you’re given your permanent dentures, molds are made in wax for you to try them on and see how they look. The only difference in appearance you might have is the absence of decaying teeth, and the appearance of a healthy, beautiful looking smile.  You will also notice a fuller facial appearance if you have been suffering from missing teeth.

How will dentures affect the way I eat?

Some patients may have some difficulty learning to eat with dentures at first.  With dentures, you will need to learn how to bite into the food, and not pull your head away until it is already in your mouth.  Small adjustments and lots of practice should help patients adjust and be able to eat normally in a short period of time.

Will dentures change the way I speak?

Getting dentures for the first time usually takes some adjustment when you speak. Patients may experience some lisping at first, but patients soon regain original speech patterns.

How do I keep my dentures clean?

For more information, check out our denture care tips.

Dental experts recommend brushing your dentures after every meal or at least clean them as soon after you eat as possible.  Patients should take the dentures out and hold them with thumb and forefinger. Next, use a good denture brush and denture cleaner to brush your dentures thoroughly.  Avoid using bleaching agents, as they will discolor the pink acrylic for the gum line.   Any other questions can be directed to your dentist or dental hygienist.

Should I take my dentures out at night?

Many times dentists recommend that patients remove their dentures while they sleep.  Removing dentures at night can allow them to soak overnight and become cleaner.  However, patients should check with their dentist to find out directions specific for them and their dentures.
